2008 Program Highlights

Each year, at the “Night of Eloquence” we recognize individuals from the community who truly make a difference in the lives of Newark’s youth. With this award we remember Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., a tireless advocate for civil rights and for peace; and a Nobel Peace Prize winner.

State Senator Teresa Ruiz and Felix Rouse, CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Newark are the 2008 recipients of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership Award.  Both are recognized for their commitment to the young people of Newark and their dedication to ending the cycle of violence in their lives.

We are thrilled to introduce Capital One Bank as the newest corporate sponsor of the Stand & Deliver program! Capital One Bank joins the Stand & Deliver family as the lead sponsor of this year's Night of Eloquence and as a generous benefactor of the Stand & Deliver "Communication Excellence Scholarship" awards.

"Stand & Deliver promotes the same core values of 'Excellence' and 'Do the Right Thing,' that we at Capital One Bank live by.  It is our honor to be part of such a fantastic program for the youth of Newark!"
