How Technology is Shaping Personal Communication

This half-hour program focuses on how new technology shifts our communication patterns, creates new cultural mores and values, and drastically alters human behavior and standards of etiquette. A panel of four experts including a business etiquette consultant, a tech reporter, a social scientist, and an attorney specializing in telecommunications law examine the positive and negative impact of technology on personal and business relationships. The panel considers how mobile electronics such as cell phones, portable e-mail devices and laptop computers can significantly increase productivity when used appropriately, and discuss the rules of "tech etiquette" that demonstrate courtesy, professionalism and respect for business colleagues at all times. Additionally, the panel will discuss the appropriate use of this technology when out with friends, on a date, or at a family gathering.
