Public concern over the rise
in childhood obesity continues to grow; however, in-depth
media coverage that goes beyond sensational stories highlighted
on daytime talk shows is lacking. This half-hour installment
takes an in-depth look at childhood obesity. The program
focuses on how the media can best provide information that
will assist parents in helping their kids make better choices
to improve their nutrition, fitness level and overall health.
Tape Piece: Produced by Dianne Doctor, the
program begins with a mini-documentary featuring the work
of FAN 4 Kids, which is a non-profit organization offering
a comprehensive and innovative program designed to introduce
kids to a lifetime of healthy living. Working with kids, parents,
schools, and local communities, FAN4Kids brings an enhanced
level of fitness and nutrition education into schools and
homes. We highlight this program, show it in action, talk
with its founder and director Rob Oliver and meet mom Darlene
Young and her daughter Zaire some of the people it is benefiting.
