| With the opening of NJPAC and the Prudential Arena, downtown Newark has experienced a significant resurgence over the past several years. While these new venues have brought more visitors into the city, quality downtown housing and retail development are needed to encourage people to stay in Newark. The half-hour panel discussion examines the historical and cultural significance of Newark, and looks at institutions such as the Newark Public Library and The Newark Museum. Further, the panel discusses the need for more affordable space for smaller galleries and artists displaced by recent development, as well as the need for greater incentives to entice small business owners and larger employers. Additional topics include the need for greater civic engagement, changes in immigration patterns, and a host of quality of life issues are considered.
