| Families
in Focus is a special Caucus series looking at the many challenges and pressures facing the modern American family.
This installment, titled “Urban Family Health,”
focuses on the problem of access to health care for inner-city
families, while placing a particular emphasis on common
urban health concerns for children. Families struggling
to make ends meet, particularly in New Jersey's urban centers,
face barriers to accessing basic health care services. Consequently,
preventable conditions such as low birth weight, lead poisoning,
and childhood asthma surface, requiring expensive treatment
options. On this program we’ll examine such urban
health issues as low birth weight, lead poisoning, childhood
asthma, drug addiction and violence.
